The struggle to integrate the Mandingo people into mainstream Liberia in terms of political,
social, and economic empowerment must begin in house. To aspire for national acceptance
and integration, we as a people must first cultivate a responsible and trusting capacity that
speaks to our readiness for said cause. To this end, there is a need to work from our local
organizational levels to instill the virtues of a consultative-oriented, financially accountable, and
unity-focused leadership. With this in mind, our candidate, Vee – Musa Fofana, an economist,
accountant, and educator is waging his campaign for V. P/Administration for FELMAUSA.
Our campaign recognizes the many strides made by the inaugural FELMAUSA leadership over
the last two years. We commend their foresight for initiating such worthy programs as the
Scholarship Drive and the “Mandingo News” hosted on our incredibly designed and managed
website. These are truly forward-looking projects that will remain pillars of our broader goal of
national integration for a long time to come.
All of the aforementioned notwithstanding, this campaign recognizes areas of shortcomings that
it seeks to address if given the opportunity to serve our community. As laid out earlier, our
candidate looks to introduce and forcefully follow through on the following:
• Consultative Leadership: The ability of a leadership to initiate an open line of
communication between itself and opinion leaders, chapter organizations, and ordinary
members of our community is vital in promoting collective decision-making for the common
good of all. For far too long, we have witnessed a culture of community leaderships shielding
themselves in “power cocoons” wherein all decisions are made with scant regard for the input of
the broader majority of the people. This has led to misinformation, misunderstandings,
tumultuous speculations, and mistrust. Our candidate views such developments as unhealthy
and vows, if elected, to work without fear or favor in rectifying this shortcoming!
• Financial Accountability: The bedrock of any organization is a sound financial footing. To
successfully galvanize the necessary financial resources to execute projects and administer the day to
day operations of FELMAUSA requires a responsible management of entrusted funds. In this
connection,
our candidate brings a wealth of academic and real-life experience. A trained economist/accountant,
Vee- Musa Fofana promises to lead a drive for financial accountability that will produce quarterly
financial reports not only to the Board Directors as constitutionally mandated but also to the general
membership. Such reports shall be published for all to see on the FELMAUSA website. If we are asking
our membership and other kind hearted people to dig into their pockets and contribute their hard-earned
dollars to underwrite our projects and operations, it behooves us as leaders to be transparent and
accountable as to how we use these funds!
• Unity-Focused Leadership: Our campaign believes that consultation and financial accountability
are considerable assets to bring to bear in promoting community unity. When these attributes become
the norm instead of the exception in FELMAUSA, it will be easier to undertake peace-building missions
across our chapters and various communities. As a campaign, we loath the “divide and rule” mentality;
our candidate will work tirelessly to bring members of our community together through cooperation,
consultation, compromise, and other conciliatory frameworks. Our candidate seeks to transcend such
vices as nepotism and sectionalism which have driven discourse in some of our organizations in the
past.
Given Vee-Musa’s commitment as enumerated above, this campaign seeks your support and vote. We
trust your capacity to recognize the truth when you hear it. With your encouragement and help, we stand
ever ready to lead FELMAUSA to a prosperous future.
